Mahindra & Mahindra said on Tuesday that its new SUV Thar has received 9,000 bookings within four days of booking commencement. According to the statement issued by the company, in the first phase, its booking has started in 18 cities of the country. In these cities, test driving and demo performance of SUVs are also available.
VJ Nakra, CEO of Mahindra & Mahindra’s automotive division, said, “The test drive facility for the SUV is available only in 18 cities. Despite this, we have got 9,000 bookings since launching it for new Thar. This is unexpected in the case of vehicles in this segment.
Mahindra & Mahindra introduced its new Thar last Friday. Its price has been kept from Rs 9.8 lakh to Rs 13.75 lakh (ex-showroom). The company has introduced the new Thar in two models AX and LX. There are options for both petrol and diesel powertrains. The design and engineering of the SUV has been done entirely in India. It will be prepared at the company’s Nashik plant.
Thar: Engine and Power
The new 2020 Mahindra Thar will get two engine options. One of these will be a 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine, which generates 152hp of power. At the same time, there will be another 2.2 liter diesel engine, which produces 132hp power. There will be a 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox with both engines. Apart from this, the manual shift part-time 4 wheel drive system with high and low reduction gear will also be available. The LX trim will be a more premium version. There will also be a diesel-manual version with an automatic gearbox for both petrol and diesel engines. Apart from this, the LX trim will have additional features such as 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system, R18 alloy wheels with all-terrain tires, LED DRL, fog lamps, reverse parking sensors. The hydraulic power-assisted steering wheel is provided in the new Thar.
Thar: How to get bookings and test drives
Bookings can be made online from Mahindra’s official website or by visiting any Mahindra dealership. The car’s test drive will start in three phases. The test drive of the first phase has started from October 2 in 18 cities. After that, 10 more cities will be added from October 10. The third phase will start from October 15.
Bid of Rs 1.11 crore for the first unit
The company held an online auction for the first unit of the new Mahindra Thar. In this auction, the highest bid for the first unit of New Thar is Rs 1.11 crore. At this price, the first 2020 Mahindra Thar became Akash Minda of Delhi. The money received from the auction will be used in the charity.
