LG announced that the company will give its current used premium smartphones Android updates for three years from the year of purchase. Recently, the company had officially said that it would leave the smartphone industry by July but promised to support the existing user base. These premium LG phones, which will get Android operating system updates, are scheduled to launch after 2019. However, it is worth noting that some phones which were launched in 2020 will remain on the two-OS update cycle.
LG Wing will get updates in Velvet
Earlier LG has not been the best in terms of releasing Android updates for its phones. Now LG has announced that it will release three Android operating systems for smartphones released in 2019 and later, after the year of purchase. These phones include LG G series smartphones, LG V series, LG Velvet and most recently LG Wing. Phones such as LG Stylo and LG K Series, which were launched in 2020, will get two OS updates.
LG’s Board of Directors had already given permission to shut down the mobile phone business. The company was suffering in the smartphone business, after which this decision has been taken. LG is now transferring its employees from the smartphone division to other units. It is believed that LG is focusing on strengthening its other business.

LG’s products remained in the market with a lot of new technology, but they could not be commercially successful in the face of the price war of cheap Chinese mobile companies. LG’s focus is on strengthening the business from which growth is coming. These include electric vehicle components, connected devices, smart homes, robotics, artificial intelligence and business to business.
