Kia Motors Corporation (Kia Motors) is going to bring many battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the future. The company plans to launch 7 new BEVs by 2027. Kiya has released sketches of these 7 BEVs. The first of these is BEV’s Code Name CV, which will be launched in 2021. The company has also revealed its Global Electric Vehicle (EV) business strategy. Kia Motors wants to create a leading position in the global EV market, given the growing consumer demand for EVs. In this direction, the company will launch several dedicated battery-electric vehicles and will partner with EV charging companies all over the world.
Kia Motors President and CEO Ho Sung Song says that Kiya has sold more than 1 lakh BEVs worldwide since the introduction of the first BEV in 2011. Since then we started introducing new BEVs for global markets and announced plans to speed up this process in the years ahead. By re-focusing on our business of electrification, our objective is to set up a 25 per cent share of our total sales worldwide by 2029.
Kaya announced the ‘Plan S’ strategy in early 2020. Under this strategy, the company plans to expand its BEV lineup to 11 models by 2025. In the same period, Kiya also aims at BEV’s share of 20 per cent of total sales in advanced markets including Korea, North America and Europe.
Focus on innovative sales practices
Kiya Motors is also trying to make its sales practices innovative with EVs. The company is considering preparing a subscription service to offer customers a diversified shopping option. Apart from this, there is also planning for EV battery leasing and rental programs, other ‘second life’ battery-related businesses.
Preparations to increase charging infrastructure
The first electric charging to popularize EV considers the expansion of infrastructure to be important and therefore it will continue to explore activities to improve charging accessibility worldwide. Kiya also wants to expand its global after-sales service infrastructure for EVs. The company aims to increase the number of EV work beige in Korea to 1200 by 2030. By the end of this year, EV Work will increase the beige to 600 by the end of this year and will take it to more than 2000 by 2023.
