It is very important to closely monitor the car and be aware of the condition of the vehicle to avoid any mistake made while buying a used car.
Used Cars
Buying a used car may be an inexpensive method but it is a difficult process. We will always advise you to shop for used cars from the official vendors as they usually cover all the check points and take care of the documentation apart from providing warranty cover.
In fact, the whole experience of buying a used car is similar to buying a new vehicle. It is very important for you to closely inspect the car and be aware of the condition of the vehicle to avoid any possible mistake. Here is a list, following which you can check the car completely. Here all the parts of the engine, electricals and batteries were mentioned, which need to be cross checked. By paying attention to all these major points, you can save extra expenses of millions of rupees…
paint – The first thing you will see is the exterior of the car. Scan the entire car for scratches and other work. By doing this you will know whether the car has been involved in an accident or not.
Check Odometer – You come inside the car and the first thing you check is the odometer reading. For example, if a 4-5 year old car has worked more than 60,000 km on the odometer, then you have to check for any major mechanical issue or repair work. You can do this by examining the service history of the car. It is always better to buy a used car with service history.
Engine – Start the engine and check how the exhaust looks. If it is too hard, then there is probably too much carbon deposited inside the engine. Check any odd sound and engine light from the engine bay.
Electricals – Check all the electricals of the car including cabin lights, horns, headlights, taillights, wipers, fog lamps and stereo systems. Take your time and check through all of them thoroughly. This will help you in the long run.
Battery – Check how old the battery is and then check the acid level as it shows whether the car is well maintained or not.
Leakage – Check for any type of leakage. There are chances that oil, water or lubricants can leak and it costs a lot of money to replace them. It is better to identify such issues before buying a used car.
Brake – There are two tests for braking, one is to go on the highway and the other is to brake at a speed of 50 km per hour. Then you can also take it downhill and check the brakes to see how effective they really are. The car should also be stopped on a straight line, which gives information about the wheel alignment of the car.
Steering – To check for any possible defects in the steering system of the car, you need to run the car completely. Check for any vibration in the steering, especially at high speed. This usually happens when the balance deteriorates. Also, if the steering seems too heavy, there may be a problem with the steering rack and bush malfunction.
Wheels – It is very important to check the condition of the rims and tires as replacing them will cost extra which will be about 10 percent of the average used car.
Documentation – The documents that should be in sequence are registration papers, insurance papers, no objections and pollution certificates. Also check if the car has High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) and Fastag attached for safety.
