A new report from NordPass shows how many people can be careless with their security passwords online. Along with this, the report emphasizes how easy it is for hackers to crack these passwords and access an account. The situation is so dangerous that 62 of the most common passwords inside India can be broken in less than a second.
The report mentions the list of the most common passwords being used around the world. While globally the most commonly used password is still ‘123456’, most people in India use “password” as a password. Such useless passwords are used by more than 17 lakh online users in the country. Needless to say, it comes under the category of passwords that can be hacked within a second.
The next most common password in India is 12345, followed by number 3 and number 4 at 123456 and 123456789. The first two are used by more than 1 million people in the country, while 123456789 and 12345678 (ranked 5th) are used by more than 2 lakh people. Some other combinations of passwords that are most commonly used in the country are india123, 1234567890, 1234567, qwerty, abc123 and xxx.

The report exposes the culture of using religious names and institutions for online security. Some of the commonly used passwords in this regard are Krishna, Sairam, Omsairam, Jaymatadi, Saibaba, Ganesh and many more. Most of these can be hacked by hackers within 2 minutes.
In India also people use their name as password. Some examples of this include Sachin, Abhishek, Rajesh, Sandeep, Sweety, Ashish, Manish, Hari Om, Anjali, Suresh, Prakash and many more. It has been mentioned in the report that all these and other such passwords can be broken within half an hour.
Then there are the phrases that people often like to use as passwords. Like iloveyou, goodluck, jaihanuman, success, rockstar, girlsrock, pass@123, lucky123, senti123 are some of these. If you also use such password, then know that hackers can hack it very easily.

People are always advised to use numbers, letters and characters in their passwords to create a strong password. Along with that, you also need to keep in mind that the password should be as updated as possible and you can do this by building around something that doesn’t easily relate to you.
You can also check your strong password through an online service like Kaspersky. Just google for password check and you will find many websites that tell you how strong your password is.
Users are also advised to keep two-factor authentication enabled on their online profiles. It adds another layer of security to your account.
