Gadkari said that the government wants to encourage vehicle manufacturers to use engines of capacity to run on more than one type of fuel in India. Negotiations with the manufacturers in this regard have reached the final stage. Gadkari said that ‘India is moving forward in the field of electric vehicle manufacturing. In the coming time, the country will be the first place in this area. Right now all the reputed brands are present in India.
Gadkari also takes charge of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises apart from Transport and Highways. He said that India has great potential to generate green energy. I am confident that we will be in a position to manufacture 100 percent lithium-ion batteries in India in six months, there is no shortage of lithium.
He informed that the government is also working towards introducing Hydrogen Fuel Cell (HFC) technology. In this, electric energy is generated from the chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen and it is used to run the engine of the vehicle. This does not require mineral fuel.
He said that the electric vehicle can make the transportation system pollution free. Gadkari is hopeful that the price of electric vehicles will come down in two years and that he will be able to compete with petrol and diesel vehicles in terms of price.
Gadkari said that he wants to see India’s automobile industry in the first place in the world. For this, the government is encouraging manufacturers to produce vehicles with ethanol, methanol, bio-CNG, electric and electric and mixed fuel engines.
