Production affected due to supply shortage
Although Honda’s production has not been affected, there are many carmakers across the country who have been forced to go for safety-related lockdowns in the past few weeks. The suspension of manufacturing may continue in May if the situation does not improve. Meanwhile, Honda is facing shortage of supply, facing a global crisis for the last several months. Supply constraints due to the global shortage of semi-conductors have affected Honda’s production volume and distribution, particularly Honda City.
In March, Honda City has slipped to fifth place in the list of top-selling mid-size sedans in India, whereas it was the most liked in March i.e. just two months ago. Honda City sales were down 68% on MoM basis against 815 units in the previous month, while 2,524 units were sold in February 2021. Honda City has given competition to other mid-size sedans like Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
