Honda Power Pack Energy India Private Limited (Honda Power Pack Energy India Private Limited) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited) a new subsidiary formed for the battery sharing service of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. HPCL), a Maharatna Oil and Gas Public Sector Undertaking, has entered into an MoU and Commercial Agreement under which the company will collaborate in the field of e-mobility and provide battery sharing service at HPCL’s retail outlets in major cities across India. Honda’s battery sharing service will have a global debut.
It is worth noting that in October 2021, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. Japan announced its plans to launch a battery sharing service in India with electric 3 wheelers through its new subsidiary, Honda Power Pack Energy India.
Honda’s battery sharing service will allow rickshaw drivers to stop at the nearest battery swapping stations being set up in select cities and swap or replace the discharged battery (Honda Mobile Power Pack e:) with a fully charged one.
Honda plans to launch Battery as a Service (BaaS) business on a commercial basis from Bengaluru city in the first half of 2022. Honda will build a strong network of battery swap stations at HPCL retail outlets.

The service will be launched in Bengaluru city with the intention of expanding to other major cities in a phased manner. Initially, its focus will be on the three-wheeler segment.
