Hero MotoCorp, the country’s leading automobile manufacturer that makes two-wheelers, is considering introducing electric models next year and foraying into this segment. This information was given by a senior company official. The company is excited about the electric vehicle sector. For this, it is using its R&D centers in Jaipur (Rajasthan) and Stephenskirchen (Germany) to produce its own product.
In addition, it has tied up with Taiwanese Gogoro Inc. This partnership is to bring the Taiwanese company’s battery interchange system to India. Under this partnership, the two companies have also decided to cooperate in electric vehicle development.
“We are trying to introduce electric vehicles in 2021-22,” Niranjan Gupta, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Hero MotoCorp, said in an interaction with analysts. You will get to see many activities in this matter. We will bring our own product or can exchange products or bring products together with Gogoro. ”
A two-wheeler manufacturing company has already invested in EV (electric vehicle) startup Ather Energy in Bengaluru to use the sector. This company has already launched products in the market.
Regarding the company’s strategy for electric vehicles, Gupta said that the company’s R&D centers in Germany and Jaipur are working to develop products based on fixed charging systems. He said that on the other hand under the Gogoro partnership, we are paying attention to the swapping system.
Gupta said, “Our idea is that the two companies will work together with each other.” Given the demand and available infrastructural facilities, our own program will be based on static charging and with Gogora we will work on an interchangeable model. With this we will be able to work in both the areas. ”
He said that the tie-up with the Taiwanese company has helped the company to develop its product. According to Gupta, “From the perspective of the interchange system, Gogoro has the technology. They know how it works and a lot of work is going on in Taiwan. This will help us move faster. ”He said that the deadline for both projects is the next calendar year.
In response to a question, Gupta said that the company’s plans to introduce the product have not been affected by the epidemic. Whatever our plans are for new products, they are running according to all the time. Hero Moto Corp has sold 58 lakh motorcycles and scooters in the financial year 2020-21.
