Motor Vehicle Safety Measures:
The Government and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, in its efforts to implement international standards regarding emission and safety measures in the country, have amended certain rules and regulations. These changes will come to force from the 1st of October, 2020.
A statement issued by the department quotes, “The government has embarked upon a transformational program of implementing international standards of emission and safety measures in the transport vehicles. As such, the government is moving on the path of a long-term regulatory road map for the automobile industry to grow and increase its contribution to GDP.”
According to these changes being made vehicles will have to mandatorily install a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Speed Alert, Glazing Glass, Air Bags, and Reverse Parking System among many other technological gadgets.
New Rule for Tubeless Tire Cars
Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has also issued a new rule for tubeless tire vehicles. According to it, cars with tubeless tires are now permitted to run without carrying a spare tire if the vehicle is installed with a Puncture Repair Kit and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
This system will operate from the speed limits of 40 km/h to the maximum speed of the vehicle. Currently, there are a limited number of vehicles in the country that come with a TPMS. With this step, the government is aiming to increase the safety of the vehicle on road and avoid any accidents or casualties.
Need for a Tire Pressure Monitoring System
A TPMS will constantly measure the levels of gas in the tires and will release a siren in case the pressure is above or below the desired levels. This will notify the person driving the car on time and reduce the chances of a punctured tire.
Reverse Parking System
Similarly, there is now a provision for a reverse parking system. With the help of this technological gadget, the driver of the car will now be able to detect any human or object in its perimeters when taking their car out of reverse.
Anti-lock Brake System to keep you Safe on the Road
An anti-lock brake system, on the other hand, reduces the chances of your car skidding when driving at high speeds or even road conditions. If any vehicle is crossing its prescribed speed limits the system will alert the driver to reduce their speed. This will ensure the safety of the passengers of the car.
Keep cool with new Glazing Glass
Glazing glasses are provided to control and reduce the temperature inside the car during the summer season. This will not only increase the comfort of the passengers of the cars but also increase the safety of the vehicle by keeping it from overheating.
Public Appreciation on shift to BS6 emission norms
Previously in April 2020, the government had mandated the manufacture, sale, and registration of BS6 vehicles only. This has regulated the release of air pollutants from internal engine combustion and spark engine ignition equipment. The government says this has helped us achieve equality with the European emission norms and bought our industry at par with countries like Europe, USA, and Japan.
Further to this, the ministry is also in the process of implementing several measures for the electronic stability control system and brake assist system over the coming two years. Similar to this notification has also been issued in regards to side stands, foot stands, and other external projections for two-wheelers which will soon be implemented.
