Taking a dig at the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that no one has ever said that only government vehicles should run on the roads. He made it clear that railways are the property of India, it will never be privatized. Goyal said, ‘Private investment in railways should be welcomed, as it will improve services.
Piyush Goyal said that the railway is a government property and will remain government. But if there is private investment in this, then no one should have any problem with that. Piyush Goyal, while defending the plan to run private sector trains on railway tracks also argued that if the government also builds roads, then only government vehicles run on it?
Railways are the property of India
The minister said that unprecedented work has been done in the last seven years towards the expansion of elevators, escalators and facilities in the railways. He said, “If we want to build state-of-the-art railways, a lot of money will be required.” He said, ‘I assure that the railway is the property of India, it will never be privatized.’
It is worth noting that during the discussion on Monday, some other members including Jasbir Singh Gill of Congress, ET Mohammed Bashir of IUML, had made comments about attempting to privatize the railway. The railway minister said that the roads have also been built by the government, so does anyone say that only government vehicles will run on it. He said that all kinds of vehicles run on the roads, then progress is made and only then everyone will get facilities.
In the Lok Sabha, Piyush Goyal informed that, we have selected about 50 such railway stations, which are being constructed in a modern way. He further said that, now we are also running the new 44 Vande Bharat train, whose order has been placed. Routes will be fixed soon and they will be started.
