The country’s leading automakers Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor, Tata Motors and Kia reported a decline in their April sales this year compared to March. Two-wheeler companies are also not untouched by this recession. Auto companies say that there are challenges of supply chain in place of lockdown and restrictions to prevent Coronavirus infection in the country.
Indian two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto said on Monday that its total domestic sales in April 2021 stood at 1,34,471 units. The company could not sell any two-wheeler or commercial vehicle in April 2020 amid disruptions related to COVID-19. Bajaj Auto told the stock market that its total sales stood at 3,88,016 units in April, compared to 37,878 units in the year-ago period.
The company said that sales of commercial vehicles during this period were 39,843 units, compared to 5,869 units in April last year. Last month, exports stood at 2,53,545 units, up from 37,878 units in April 2020.
Nearly 36 percent drop in sales figures
In March 2021, Bajaj Auto sold 181,393 units, which was 84% higher than the 98,412 units sold in March a year earlier. But in April, the sales figures have fallen by about 36 per cent. Commercial vehicles sold in April 2021 were 39,843 units compared to 5,869 units in April last year. Exports were at 2,53,545 units last month as compared to 37,878 units in April 2020.
Zero sale took place in April last year
However, companies recorded zero sales in April 2020 due to a nationwide lockdown imposed to prevent the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic last year in the country. Because of this, sales in April this year cannot be compared to previous years.
Let us know that Bajaj Auto has recently launched the ‘Dagger Edge’ variant of its Pulsar range motorcycle with new exterior paint schemes with updated graphics.
