Bajaj Auto has accelerated its product development here. The company’s product launch in FY 2021 has slowed down a bit. In such a situation, within the next few months, Bajaj can launch many new launches and motorcycles. All these can be launched on the new platform. The Pune based company has so far launched only 3. In such a situation, the company can launch many new models within the coming 6 months.
Bajaj Auto Executive Director Rakesh Sharma said that, we are accelerating our product program to compensate for the loss of last year and first half of this year. We have already given three introductions, including the CT110X and the Pulsar NS125. In such a situation, within 6 months we are going to bring a new platform on which new variants will be prepared.
The motorcycle specialist in this segment will target the growth category which includes the 125cc segment. The 125cc segment has seen huge growth in the last few months and the Pulsar 125 portfolio is behind it somewhere. Bajaj’s market share increased to 19 percent due to the 125cc segment as compared to 7 percent in the year 2020.
A bike powered by an engine larger than 125cc now generates 60 per cent of Bajaj’s domestic volume, compared to 46 per cent in FY 2020. To keep the trend of premiumization, Bajaj has decided to take a big step in the 250cc segment as well.
Sharma said, “We are looking to create a 250cc segment as we believe that the quarter liter segment is something in which the 150cc segment customer is ready to jump.” Bajaj Auto added a 250cc engine in the year 2020 and joined the Dominor family. Dominor 250 is included in the affordable bike, which is priced at 1.7 lakh rupees. It also includes 400cc.
Bajaj Auto closed FY21 with a decline of 13 per cent where domestic sales stood at 1.80 million units. At the same time, it was 2.07 million units in the year 2020. Bajaj has a market share of 12 per cent in the domestic two wheeler category and the same in Domestic at 18 per cent.
