Auto Sales in February 2022: Last month, auto companies had to face chip shortage, due to which their business was affected, but its effect has lessened. Last month, there was a mixed trend regarding the sales of auto companies. The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India’s overall wholesale sales declined slightly on an annualized basis in February last month. At the same time, sales of the company in the domestic market fell by 8.46 percent.
Sales of Hyundai Motor India, Honda and Toyota Kirloskar also declined. On the other hand, the sales of Ashok Leyland, Tata Motors, Nissan India, Skoda Auto India, Mahindra (Mahindra) and MG Motor (MG Motor) were booming.

Maruti Suzuki India (MSI)
- Maruti Suzuki India’s total wholesale sales fell from 1,64,469 units on a year-on-year basis to 1,64,056 units in February 2022 last month.
- Last month, the company’s domestic sales slipped 8.46 per cent year-on-year or 1,52,983 units to 1,40,035 units.
- Sales of mini cars like Alto and S-Presso fell by 17.81 per cent to 19,691 units from 23,959 units.
- The sales of Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire in the compact segment were 80,517 units in February 2021, down 3.38 per cent from 77,795 units in February 2022 last month.
- Sales of the mid-side sedan Ciaz increased from 1,510 units to 1,912 units last month.
- Sales of Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and Ertiga fell from 26,884 units on a year-on-year basis to 25,360 units last month.
- The company’s domestic sales were hit but exports grew twice. The company exported 24,021 vehicles last month as compared to 11,486 units in February 2021.
- The company says that the impact on the production of electronic components has been reduced due to the shortage. The company made every effort to reduce its impact.

MG Motor
- MG Motor India’s retail sales grew 5 per cent year-on-year to 4,528 units from 4,329 units.
- The company said that there is a great craze among buyers for the ester and the company is working on increasing its supply to meet the increasing demand. Its Hector and Gloster also sold well in their segment.
- The company said that it is continuously working on resolving the problems related to the supply chain.
Skoda Auto
- Skoda Auto India sales grew five times last month. Building on the success of the mid-sized SUV Kushaq, the company sold 4,503 units in February 2022 as compared to 853 units in February 2021.
- Skoda launched the new Skoda Slavia 1.0 TSI sedan on 28 February and is now all set to launch the Slavia 1.5 TSI on 3 March.
Nissan India
- Nissan India’s overall wholesale sales grew 57 per cent last month. Last month in February 2022, the company sold 6,662 vehicles.
- The company sold 2456 vehicles in the domestic market last month and exported 4206 vehicles. Last year in February 2021, the company exported 4244 vehicles.
- The company says that the demand for its SUV Nissan Magnite is increasing continuously, but there are problems related to the supply, which are being continuously tried to overcome. Currently, the company exports magnite to 15 countries including Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Brunei, Uganda and Kenya.

Tata Motors
- Tata Motors’ overall domestic sales grew 27 per cent last month. In February last year, the company dispatched 58,366 units, while last month the company sold a total of 73875 vehicles in the domestic market.
- The sales of the company’s passenger vehicles stood at 39,981 units, up 47 percent from 27225 units on a year-on-year basis last month.
- Commercial vehicle sales stood at 31,141 units, up almost 9 per cent year-on-year from 33894 units in the domestic market.
Toyota Kirloskar
- Toyota Kirloskar Motor sales fell 38 per cent last month. The company sold 8,745 units last month as compared to 8,745 vehicles in February last year.
- According to Toyota Kirloskar, the bookings of the company are increasing continuously and the company is trying to fulfill the pending orders.
Hyundai Motor India
- Hyundai Motor India sales fell 14 per cent last month. The company had sold a total of 53159 vehicles last month while in the same period last year, the company sold 61,800 vehicles.
- The company’s domestic sales fell 14.6 per cent year-on-year to 44,050 units from 51,600 units in February 2022. At the same time, exports also fell by 10.7 percent to 9109 units from 10,200 units.
- Hyundai says that to deal with the chip shortage, the company along with its partners is trying all possible options so that customers can get their favorite car at the earliest.

Ashok Leyland
- The sales of commercial vehicles of Hinduja’s flagship company Ashok Leyland were up 7 per cent on a year-on-year basis last month. The company sold 13,703 units in February last year while it sold 14,657 units in February 2022 this year.
- Domestic sales jumped 7 per cent to 13,281 units in February this year from 12,776 units in February last year.
- Medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales jumped 16 per cent year-on-year from 7,114 units to 8,280 units.
- However, sales of light commercial vehicles declined in domestic sales and last month the company sold only 5001 units in February this year compared to 5,662 units in February 2021 last year.
Honda Cars
- Honda Cars India’s domestic market sales fell 23 per cent year-on-year last month. The company had sent 9,324 vehicles to domestic dealers in February last year, while this year the company sold 7,187 units in February.
- However, the company’s exports increased and compared to 987 units in February 2021, the company exported 2337 vehicles last month.
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M)
- The sales of the giant automobile company Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) stood at 54,455 units last month, with a jump of 89 percent.
- The sales of the company’s passenger vehicles in the domestic market increased from 15,391 units to 27,663 units with a jump of 80 per cent.
- Commercial vehicle sales jumped from 11,559 units to 23,978 units.
- The company’s exports increased from 1,827 units to 2,814 units.
- Veejay Nakra, CEO of Mahindra & Mahindra’s auto division, says that the company is continuously monitoring the supply of semiconductor related parts and necessary steps are being taken to deal with it.
