In a recent SIAM meeting, Nitin Gadkari has requested all car makers to provide at least 6 airbags on all vehicles in the interest of passenger safety in India.
The possibility of making 6 airbags mandatory on all vehicles has been discussed in the SIAM meeting.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has urged car makers in India to offer at least 6 airbags as standard on all vehicles. The Union Minister said on Twitter, “In the interest of passenger safety, I appeal to all private vehicle makers to make available at least 6 airbags compulsorily in all variants and segments of the vehicle.”
The possibility of making 6 airbags mandatory on all vehicles was discussed in the meeting of SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) recently. Apart from adding additional airbags to boost vehicle safety, the future of flex-fuel vehicles was also discussed. According to another tweet by the Union Minister, such vehicles will be capable of running on 100 percent ethanol and petrol and will be available within a year. Currently, a driver-only front airbag is mandatory for all cars in the Indian market.
After deferring the initial deadline of August 31, dual front airbags have become mandatory from December 31 this year. Most of the entry level vehicles in our market already come with two front airbags as standard.
In the interest of passenger safety, I have also appealed all Private Vehicle Manufacturers to compulsorily provide a minimum of 6 Airbags across all variants and segments of the vehicle. pic.twitter.com/0clrCyHvid
