New York: The road outside a famous and prominent temple in New York, USA has been named ‘Ganesh Temple Street’, which is a matter of pride for the Hindu community in the country. The Hindu Temple Society of North America ‘Sri Maha Vallabh Ganapati Devasthanam’ was established in 1977. It is known as Ganesh Temple which is believed to be the first and oldest Hindu temple in North America.

This Hindu temple is located in Flushing, Queens County. The street outside the temple is named Boone Street, named after John Boone, an American religious freedom advocate and pioneer of the anti-slavery movement. In a special ceremony on Saturday, the street was named ‘Ganesh Temple Street’ in honor of the famous Ganesh temple.

The ceremony was also attended by Randhir Jaiswal, Consul General of India in New York, Donovan Richards, President of Queens Borough, Dilip Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Innovation in the office of New York Mayor Eric Adams, and members of the Indian-American community.

Jaiswal said on the occasion that naming the road another name is not just a matter of celebration but also “shows the hard work that went into achieving this feat”. Richards shared a video on Twitter naming the street in the presence of priests and others.
