According to Dawn’s report, the session of the Punjab Assembly was called for the election of the new leader of the house and the chief minister. But, the session was adjourned till April 6 without voting. The provincial assembly, along with PML-Q’s PTI-backed Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and PML-N’s Hamza Shahbaz, was to vote on Sunday to elect a new leader of the house.
The session of the Punjab Assembly took place on the same time that a National Assembly (NA) session was to vote on a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan. In the end there was no voting in either of the two places. Because the no-confidence motion in the National Assembly was rejected by Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri.
PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafiq termed the adjournment of the session as unconstitutional. Earlier, hours before the session of the provincial assembly, Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar was removed from his post. Later, former information secretary of PTI Umar Sarfaraz Cheema has been made the new governor of Punjab in his place.
