Despite the impressive performance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, 10 ministers of the state, including Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, have faced defeat. According to the Election Commission, in Sirathu, BJP candidate Keshav Prasad Maurya was defeated by Samajwadi Party’s Dr Pallavi Patel by 7,337 votes. Pallavi Patel is the National Vice President of Apna Dal (Communist).
Besides Maurya, the state government’s sugarcane minister Suresh Rana lost the Thanabhawan seat in Shamli district to Ashraf Ali Khan of the Samajwadi Party-backed Rashtriya Lok Dal by more than 10 thousand votes. At the same time, Minister of State Chhatrapal Singh Gangwar lost to Ataur Rahman of Samajwadi Party by 3,355 votes from Baheri assembly seat in Bareilly district.
In the Yogi-led government, Rural Development Minister Rajendra Pratap Singh alias Moti Singh lost to Samajwadi Party’s Ram Singh by 22,051 votes from Patti assembly seat in Pratapgarh district. At the same time, Minister of State Chandrika Prasad Upadhyay lost to Anil Kumar of SP by 20,876 votes in Chitrakoot seat.
Minister of State Anand Swaroop Shukla also lost
Similarly, Minister of State Anand Swaroop Shukla was defeated by Jaiprakash Circle of Samajwadi Party by 12,951 votes in Bairia seat of Ballia district. Anand Swarup had won from Ballia seat last time but he was sent to Bairia after cutting ticket of sitting MLA Surendra Singh and party nominated Dayashankar Singh in his place.
After getting ticket, Surendra Singh rebelled against BJP and contested from Vikassheel Insaan Party and BJP lost Bairiya seat. In Ballia district’s Phephna seat, Sports Minister Upendra Tiwari lost to Samajwadi Party candidate Sangram Singh by 19,354 votes.
Samajwadi Party’s Usha Maurya defeated BJP candidate and state government minister Ranvendra Singh Dhunni by 25,181 votes in Hussainganj seat of Fatehpur district. Minister of State Lakhan Singh Rajput defeated Samajwadi Party’s Pradeep Kumar Yadav by a margin of just 473 votes in Dibiyapur seat of Auraiya district.
Mata Prasad Pandey defeated the Minister of Basic Education
Former Speaker of the Assembly and Samajwadi Party candidate Mata Prasad Pandey defeated Basic Education Minister Satish Chandra Dwivedi by 1,662 votes in Etawa seat of Siddharthnagar district. In Ghazipur seat, Minister of State Sangeeta Balwant was defeated by Jaikishan of Samajwadi Party by a margin of 1692 votes.
