Rescue Operations by India: The central government is using several options to rescue civilians trapped in Ukraine after the Russian attack. About 20 thousand citizens were trapped in Ukraine, out of which many people have been safely brought back to India. The government has named this mission ‘Operation Ganga’. The purpose of this operation is to bring all Indian citizens back to their country safely. Apart from this, a few days ago the government had announced that it would also take citizens of neighboring and developing countries to Ukraine.
The government is evacuating Indians from Ukraine through neighboring countries of Hungary, Poland and Romania. Apart from this, Russia has offered to build a corridor on humanitarian grounds. However, this is not the first time that the government is running such an evacuation program. Even before this, the government has run many major operations in which citizens trapped abroad were rescued.

Operation Sukoon
In July–August 2006, a military dispute broke out between Israel and Hezbollah, when on 12 July 2006, Hezbollah invaded Israel in which 10 Israeli soldiers were killed and they captured the bodies of two Israeli soldiers in an Israeli prison. Bargaining began for the evacuation of Lebanese prisoners. Israel attacked Lebanon over this. During this war, there were more than 10 thousand Indians in Lebanon at that time, out of which about 2 thousand were at risk due to war. About 200 citizens of Sri Lanka and Nepal were also stranded who had requested India to evacuate their citizens. The Government of India, with the help of the Indian Navy, evacuated those people of Lebanon who were married to Indians, in addition to India, Sri Lanka and Nepal, safely. Under this operation, the warship took everyone out of Lebanon to Cyprus, from where Air India brought everyone back to India. Even after this, the Indian task force remained in international waters near Lebanon so that the trapped civilians could be rescued immediately. A total of 2280 people were evacuated under the campaign, in which 1764 were Indians, 112 Sri Lankans, 64 Nepalese and seven Lebanese who were married to Indians. It was the largest rescue operation for the Indian Navy after the Second World War. During that time there was the government of Dr. Manmohan Singh in India.

This operation lasted from 1 April 2015 to 11 April 2015 and in this the Indian Air and Navy together with Air India evacuated about 4640 Indians and 960 foreign nationals from 41 countries from Yemen.
