Bhiwandi : Based on the instructions of Mahavitaran, the power subsidy for all powerlooms/textile consumers has been withheld till further notice. Under the Mahavitaran instructions, the upcoming electricity bill of all powerloom/textile consumers will be made at non-subsidised rates. The announcement of Mahavitaran has created a stir among the Bhiwandi powerloom owners. Powerloom holders have appealed to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Energy Minister Nitin Raut to pass necessary orders for the immediate return of Mahavitaran for the betterment of the powerloom industry.
It may be mentioned that for the powerloom/textile consumers having load more than 27 HP, who were not registered with the Textile Commissionerate Nagpur last 2 months ago, the power subsidy has been stopped from the month of January-22. About 1600 consumers of Bhiwandi were affected by the said decision. The decision by Textiles Minister Aslam Shaikh regarding restoration of subsidy for power consumers above 27 HP was stayed after an appeal by powerloom organisations, but doubts were rife as there was no government order. It is surprising that even though the decision of the government to restore subsidy on load above 27 HP has not come, instructions have been sent by the Mahavitaran Company to the power company to stop the subsidy for all powerloom / textile consumers. Under the instructions of Mahavitaran, the subsidy of about 20 thousand powerloom consumers has been stopped and the next bill will be billed at non-subsidised rates. People associated with the powerloom industry say that due to the instructions of Mahavitaran, a heavy burden has fallen on the powerloom industry. With the decision to stop the subsidy on the powerloom industry, the possibility of the powerloom industry going on the path of destruction has become strong.
