Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan arrived in Russia’s capital Moscow late Wednesday night on a two-day visit. It is a strange coincidence that a day after Imran Khan’s arrival, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday announced a ‘military operation’ in the Donbas region of Ukraine. Putin called on the Ukrainian military to lay down arms, announcing a “military operation” in Ukraine.
On the orders of President Vladimir Putin, the Russian army has launched an all-out attack on Ukraine. Explosions were heard in the Ukrainian capital Kiev and several other cities shortly after Putin’s announcement. Explosions were heard in Ukraine’s Odessa and Kharkiv cities. The Russian army is continuously raining missiles in the Ukrainian capital Kiev.
Russia’s military says it has targeted Ukrainian airports and other military assets. Populated areas are not targeted. Ukraine’s president declared ‘martial law’ in the country after Russia launched a military offensive and urged citizens not to panic.
Did Pakistani PM reach at wrong time?
This is the first visit by a Prime Minister of Pakistan to Russia in the last 23 years. Experts say that Imran Khan has gone to Russia at a very wrong time. Khan has visited Russia at a time when the war between Ukraine and Russia has started. The Prime Minister of Pakistan is also scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin and discuss issues related to economic cooperation during his visit.
Earlier, Pakistani media reports said that Moscow and Islamabad are in talks to finalize the plans for the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin this year. A Pakistani newspaper said Putin’s visit had been in the news for the past two years but could not materialize due to several reasons, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

Imran Khan is the first Pakistani prime minister to visit Russia, 23 years after former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited Moscow in 1999. Although former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf, Asif Ali Zardari and former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had visited Russia, none of them had made an official visit.
Imran Khan is accompanied by a high-level delegation, which includes his cabinet colleagues. According to the Foreign Office, the bilateral summit between Prime Minister Khan and Putin is a key point of the visit. Khan expressed hope for a peaceful solution to the ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
