Mumbai: Iqbal Kaskar, brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, was sent to 7-day ED custody by the court on Friday. Jailed Kaskar was arrested by the ED on Friday in connection with the investigation of a money laundering case. According to reports, Kaskar, already lodged in Thane jail in several cases of alleged extortion, was detained in the latest case after which he was arrested by the ED. Kaskar was produced before a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court where the court sent him to ED custody for 7 days.
In fact, the ED has sought Kaskar’s custody for interrogation of fugitive underworld gangster Dawood Ibrahim and others associated with the Mumbai underworld in a new case. Central agency is investigating in the money laundering case. Recently, the ED had also conducted raids in this case. A total of 10 locations, including those belonging to Ibrahim’s late sister Haseena Parkar, Kaskar and gangster Chhota Shakeel’s brother-in-law Salim Qureshi alias Salim Fruit, were raided. Qureshi was also questioned by the ED after the raid.

The ED case is based on the recent FIR registered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) against Ibrahim and others, apart from its independent intelligence. The NIA had registered its criminal complaint under sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
