Uttarakhand Election 2022: All the 70 assembly seats of Uttarakhand will go to polls tomorrow i.e. on Monday. 82-year-old Ichhaya Devi has this time joined the elderly people who have already voted through postal ballot sitting at home ahead of the assembly elections in Uttarakhand on Monday. About a week ago, the Election Commission team reached Ichhaya Devi’s house on posh Teg Bahadur Road here and informed her about the commission’s initiative and took her vote by getting her stamped on the ballot paper.
When asked about this, Devi expressed happiness and thanked the commission. Talking to news agency PTI, Devi said that I thank the Election Commission for providing me the facility of voting at home. In fact, this time, for the first time in the state, the Election Commission has given the facility to the voters above the age of 80 and the differently-abled to exercise their franchise sitting at home.
15940 people have voted sitting at home
According to the information received from the State Election Office, so far 15940 people out of 80 years of age and differently abled voters have been voted through postal ballot sitting at home. State Chief Electoral Officer Sowjanya informed that in Uttarakhand a total of 17068 Divyang voters and senior voters above 80 years of age have been issued postal ballot papers for voting at home.

Even in adverse conditions like heavy snowfall and rain, this process was completed with complete free, fair and transparency by 2241 polling personnel walking 10 to 15 kms. However, Mohini Road resident Kunwar Singh Rautela (84) and his 80-year-old wife Devki Devi are waiting for the commission’s team to cast their vote. When asked in this regard, Devi said that voting is her right and if the team does not come, she will go to the polling station and cast her vote.
People are getting facilities due to hard work of polling personnel
In view of the difficult geographical conditions and unfavorable weather conditions of the state, 35 polling personnel were dispatched three days before the date of 14 February and 1442 polling personnel two days before the date of polling. There are also many polling stations in the state where polling personnel will have to walk several kilometers to reach them. 33 polling stations in different districts of the state are located at a distance of more than 10 kilometers and 262 polling stations are located at a walking distance of more than five kilometers by road.
Out of these, the maximum walking distance of 18 km will have to be completed by the polling personnel who reach the Manar booth of the Government Primary School of Dharchula Vidhan Sabha of Pithoragarh district. Apart from this, polling personnel will reach Government Upper Primary School, Kalap booth by walking distance of 13 kms in Purola Vidhan Sabha of Uttarkashi district and walking distance of 14 kms to reach Government Primary School Osla booth.
