Pune: The Koregaon Bhima Inquiry Commission has summoned Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar to appear as a witness on February 23 and 24. The schedule of the hearing to be held in Mumbai from February 21 to 25 was released by VV Palnitkar, Secretary of the Commission.
In October 2018, Pawar appointed retired High Court judge J. N. Patel had filed an affidavit before a two-member commission, which was probing the causes of violence that took place in Koregaon Bhima area on January 1, 2018. One person was killed and several others were left injured in the violence. During an interaction with the media after the January 1 violence, Sharad Pawar had raised doubts about the role of Hindutva groups in the riots, but in his affidavit, Sharad Pawar had said that he would not take special action against any particular organization for the Koregaon Bhima violence. were not in a position to accuse.

As per the commission’s schedule, Sharad Pawar is to appear before the commission in Mumbai on February 23 and 24. Along with Pawar, the commission has also summoned senior police officers including IPS officer Mohammad Suvez Haque, who was the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Pune Rural at the time of Koregaon Bhima violence. The then Additional SP of Pune Rural Police Sandeep Pakhle and the then Additional Commissioner of Pune City Police Ravindra Sengavkar will appear as witnesses between February 21 and February 24.
