Mumbai: Those traveling by Mumbai local train of Central Railway are going to get a big relief from Tuesday. The work on the much-awaited Thane-Diva Local Corridor was finally completed late on Monday night as per schedule. 72 Hours Mega Block was taken for the infrastructure work of 5th 6th Line completed through MRVC. All the engineering, OHE, S&T, diversion etc., which started from Friday night, were completed by late Monday night.
According to Mumbai Railway Development Corporation, the work of 5th 6th line will be completed and handed over to Central Railway from 8th February. On Monday, Railway Safety Commissioner Manoj Arora along with senior officials of MRVC and Central Railway also visited the site.
Passengers will get relief: Dr. Shrikant Shinde
Dr. Shrikant Shinde, MP, who has been making constant efforts to complete the work of this corridor, said that now the passengers will get a lot of relief on this route. With the increase in local ferries, commuters, especially in the suburbs, will make the journey easier. In future, local travel will be accessible from Kurla directly to Kalyan.

Mega Blocks, Mega Targets
Six big blocks were taken in the final phase to introduce Thane-Diva 5th and 6th line. The last block was a block of 72 hours. After the block, up and down slow services have started running from the new tunnel no. 5 tower wagons, 2 unimat machines, 6 JCBs, 2×2 diesel multi locos and one ballast rake were used for engineering, electrical and signal and telecommunication works.
Separate track for local and mail-express
Central Railway CPRO Shivaji Sutar informed that the existing Down and Up fast lines between Thane-Diva will be made operational through Parsik tunnel. With this, separate lines will now be available for local and mail express trains. With this increasing the speed of trains, the number of local ferries will also increase. It may be mentioned that Thane-Diva 5th and 6th line were sanctioned under MUTP-II in 2008-09 with equal cost sharing between Ministry of Railways and State Government.
