Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Saturday said that there is a need to make the anti-defection law very strict in the backdrop of several MLAs and ministers switching sides in Uttar Pradesh (UP Assembly Election 2022). Accusing the SP of being anti-Dalit, Mayawati said, “SP had re-named Sant Ravidas Nagar as Bhadohi as soon as it came to power, if this is not its anti-Dalit attitude then what is it?”
Mayawati said in a press conference organized on her birthday on Saturday, “As soon as the elections are near in the country, the process of defection of selfish people starts, keeping this in mind, now the anti-defection law should be made strict.” Because it is also affecting our democracy very badly. Targeting the SP, the BSP chief said, “The Samajwadi Party which tore and threw the bill brought in the Rajya Sabha for promotion of Dalits in government jobs and did not allow this bill to be passed, how can it be a Dalit friendly party.” can.”

After former minister Swami Prasad Maurya joined the SP on Friday, SP President Akhilesh Yadav had said, “If socialists and Ambedkarites come together, now no one can stop us from coming to power.” Mayawati alleged that while in power, the SP has taken care of only its Yadav community in the backward class, whereas under the BSP rule, equal care was taken for the development and upliftment of all the backward castes including the Dalits as well as the Yadavs.
In a veiled attack on the SP, Mayawati said, “Hindu-Muslim brotherhood was broken under his rule. The vote of Muslims was definitely taken in the election, but in the matter of ticket distribution and participation in the government, Muslims have been neglected. This time too, in the first list released by SP, Muslim society has been neglected in ticket distribution, whereas BSP has given proper participation to Muslim society in every election, especially in Muslim dominated areas. Apart from this, BSP has also taken full care of the interest and welfare of all sections including upper castes.
Former minister Swami Prasad Maurya had claimed that he made Mayawati the chief minister. On this claim of Maurya, the BSP supremo said, “Will he make me the chief minister. After joining BSP, his luck opened and he became MLA. For five years, the people of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) carried him.”
He expressed confidence that the Bahujan Samaj Party would once again return to power like in 2007, and opinion polls and pre-poll surveys would be left to the ground. Praising his nephew Akash Anand and Rajya Sabha member Satish Mishra’s son Kapil Mishra, he said that these people are strengthening the party among the youth and this time the youth will also support the party.
