Mumbai. A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with chief ministers on the coronavirus situation, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Friday took a jibe at him, saying it was good that this time the lockdown. Lock Down) was not announced, as in the past “without taking people into confidence and without any thought” (Lockdown) was imposed.
Speaking about several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders quitting the party ahead of the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the NCP said the saffron party’s five-year “rule of arrogance” there was one of the reasons responsible for it. Modi on Thursday had a digital interaction with chief ministers on the pandemic situation in the country amid a surge in infection cases due to the oomicron form of the coronavirus.
Talking about it, NCP Chief Spokesperson and Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik said, “People were scared that there might be another round of lockdown, but it is a good thing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to the Chief Ministers. Asked the States to take a decision based on the situation prevailing at the local level. When there was no COVID-19, the lockdown was announced without any thought and without taking people into confidence.”
He said, “Now there are a lot of cases of COVID-19, but people are taking precautions… it is good that the lockdown was not announced.” Targeting the resignation of several BJP leaders in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the assembly polls, Malik said, “The exodus of BJP state ministers and MLAs is not going to stop. The arrogance of five years of long rule, the ploy to insult others, to spread fear in the villages seems to be the reason for the BJP losing its leaders.”
The NCP leader said, “I think the BJP will lose more leaders in the coming days. These are clear signs of change in Uttar Pradesh and the BJP is losing the battle.” Eight BJP MLAs, including three ministers, have resigned in Uttar Pradesh during the last three days.
