Former MLC of Congress
Siraj Mehndi is a former MLC of Congress. However, in recent months he had been at loggerheads with the party. In November 2019, Congress expelled him from the party for six years. Siraj had accused the party of neglecting the Shia community. The Congress party had also made Siraj the chairman of the UP Congress Committee minority cell. However, he had said in one of his controversial statements that Congress President Sonia Gandhi is caught in the infatuation of Rahul and Priyanka. Siraj had alleged that Rahul and Priyanka were ruining the party, while Sonia Gandhi remained Dhritarashtra. Because of his statements, Congress had distanced himself from him. However, now after forgetting these bitter experiences, Siraj has started a new innings of his politics by joining the NCP.
