A 38-year-old man died in a road accident in Delhi on Saturday. This person was earlier in the position of a restaurant manager, but during the time of Coronavirus, this person lost his job, since then he had to do food delivery work to feed his family. According to news agency PTI, Salil Tripathi was on his way to deliver an order in north-west Delhi’s Rohini when he was hit by a constable allegedly driving in a drunken state.
The constable rammed his car into Tripathi’s bike. He jumped in the air and hit the divider. A resident took him to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The constable has been arrested.
The Indian Express reported, “Delhi Police said Tripathi was the only earning member in his family. He left behind wife and son. Before getting a job as a restaurant manager in Delhi’s Hudson Lane, A hotel management graduate from Ayodhya, Tripathi had worked in several high-profile hotels.”
Tripathi’s elder brother Manoj said he led a comfortable life and even sent money back to Ayodhya, but things changed after he lost his job.

Tripathi’s brother told The Indian Express, “We were struggling to meet our needs.” He said, “Now, we have lost that. We don’t know how we will run the household now. I am a farmer, and I don’t have much savings.”
The brothers faced a tragedy in April last year. His father died due to coronavirus during the devastating second wave of the pandemic.
Tripathi took up a job with Zomato to meet the expenses. Earning up to Rs 50,000 per month reduced his income to Rs 10,000.
The arrest of the constable responsible for Tripathi’s death has brought some relief to the bereaved family. Tripathi said, “What do I do now? I have lost him forever. My son keeps asking questions.”
Tripathi’s story depicts the distress of many other Indians who lost jobs and family members due to the coronavirus crisis. Businesses opened up after a disastrous second wave subsided, but with Omicron’s rapid spread, they are on the verge of closing again.
