The area where China is building the bridge is under illegal occupation of China for the last sixty years. That land is already in Chinese territory across the Line of Actual Control. Recently, the Government of India has given this information. Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi why he was not saying anything on the construction of the bridge. Now the question itself is arising from the previous governments of the Congress Party and also from Rahul Gandhi.
Is it not true that due to the mistake of Congress government, China had occupied that area sixty years ago? History tells that the then Indian government had shown short-sightedness. He did not see any threat of war from China. While the border was unsafe. When a member of Parliament discussed the reserved boundary, Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had said that even grass does not grow there.
In fact, immediately after independence, our rulers were worshipers of peace and non-violence. They had not strengthened the army so much that it could fight even a minor battle. Also, there was a tussle between Morarji Desai and VK Krishna Menon, two prominent members of the then cabinet. The Defense Minister and Army Chief, General Thimayya also did not get along. The central government was not ready to spend on the army. As a result we lost to China in 1962.
The reasons for that shameful defeat also abound because our borders are still not completely secure. There are differences of opinion even among the existing political parties of this country in the matter of protecting the border and dealing with enemies. Whenever there is a discussion on Kashmir, this difference of opinion is revealed even from that. Some of our leaders ignore internal and external threats to the country when it is selfish, vote bank.
Some leaders keep on giving such speeches and statements which will help them in electoral politics. Before 1962, it was said that the image of the Indian government in the world would be tarnished by fencing the borders. General BM Kaul has written the story of defeat from China in his famous book ‘The Untold Story’. Kaul has mainly blamed Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Defense Minister VK Krishna Menon and Finance Minister Morarji Desai for the defeat. However, he has not held himself responsible. How many people consider themselves responsible?
Menon and Desai later denied Kaul’s allegations. But Nehru was not alive to refute it when the book was published in 1967. But there was a lot of discussion on that book in those days in the country and abroad. According to Kaul, Prime Minister Nehru and Defense Minister Menon were repeatedly warned of the possibility of a Chinese attack. He was urged to equip the Indian army with new and modern weapons. But this was ignored.
Because then the prominent leaders had no idea of China’s military power and preparedness. ’… Left-leaning Menon was not even ready to accept the demand that non-governmental industry should also be given the task of making weapons for the needs of the Indian Army. Not only this, according to General Kaul, then some Chinese military officers were shown an intimate display of the Indian Army. What’s more, even during the prime ministership of the previous Man Mohan Singh government, preparations for the competition with China were lax.
On the breach in PM Modi’s security, CM Channi briefed Priyanka Gandhi, BJP asked – which constitutional post does she hold?
During the UPA regime, the Defense Ministry had prepared a plan of Rs 65,000 crore for army expansion in view of the threat from China to the Indian border and sent it to the Finance Ministry. On this, the Finance Ministry asked a unique question to the Defense Ministry. He wrote and asked whether the threat from China would persist even after two years. Asking this the Finance Ministry “red flagged” the Defense Ministry. In fact, the Finance Ministry was trying to send a message to the Defense Ministry that if the threat does not persist even after two years, then where is the need to spend so much money on defense preparations?
This news was also published in the year 2012. Now how could the Ministry of Defense or any other person give such an answer to this question which would have satisfied the Finance Ministry. Anyway, if he had to be satisfied, why would he ask such a question? Can anyone tell what will be the next step for China? If such news about the security of the country had been published in any other country, then the leaders of that country would have been agitated.
They would have understood that how much laxity is being taken regarding the security of the country. Remember that when Defense Minister Menon proposed to the then Finance Minister Morarji Desai to demand some money for the army, Desai rejected this proposal under the guise of money. Both the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Defense did not look at each other with open eyes, so the efforts to produce immunity got slackened.
The lack of agility in the army was such that BM Kaul was made lieutenant general of the eastern sector, ignoring the seniority of a dozen army officers. While Kaul had no combat experience. When China attacked, Kaul had come to Delhi on the pretext of illness.
He was directing the army from Delhi itself. He was not removed from his responsibility. Because he was a relative of a big personality. Despite knowing all this, is Rahul Gandhi asking questions to the Prime Minister?
