New Delhi: Amidst the increase in the cases of COVID-19, Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain said on Wednesday that many international passengers whose test report at the airport came negative, got infected after a few days. and their family members are also getting infected during this period. Jain told reporters, “The cases have increased due to international flights. Even during the previous wave, cases increased with flights coming in.”
Till Wednesday, 238 cases of Omicron have been reported in Delhi. A day earlier there were 165 cases of infection with the new form of the virus. On Tuesday, 496 cases of COVID-19 were reported in the national capital, which is the highest number of cases since June 4. The infection rate has also increased to 0.89 percent.

Jain said the Omicron form is highly contagious and indicated that this could be one of the reasons behind the increase in cases. He said, “More cases are of travelers from abroad and those who have traveled to other places. If they are found infected, they are sent to isolation.
“So far we have seen that patients do not require the help of oxygen and recover easily,” he said. He urged the people to follow the COVID-appropriate behaviour. In view of the rise in cases, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday declared a ‘yellow alert’ under which schools, colleges, cinemas and gyms will remain closed. (agency)
