On this background, after exploring the details of Pune district, it was found that more than two thousand people have been bitten by snakes in the district in the last one year.
The cases of snakebite are increasing continuously. Most of the victims are farmers and shepherds. Maximum 339 cases of snakebite have been reported in Baramati and 288 in Bhor taluka of Pune district. While the lowest 49 incidents have been reported in Velha taluka.

Incidence of snakebites increased compared to last year
The incidence of snake bites is higher in rural areas as compared to urban areas of Pune district. There has been an increase in these incidents during the rainy and winter seasons. Paddy cultivation is prevalent in Mulshi, Maval, Baramati, Velhe and other taluks. Horticulture is also practiced in Baramati, Indapur, Bhor and Shirur. As a result, more snake bites have been reported in the area. Meanwhile, the incidence of snakebites has increased compared to last year due to our geographical conditions. Due to the hilly area of the district, snakes live here more. Because of this, the incidence of snakebite has increased.

The patient’s risk of death in snakebite cases is high because the patient does not have immediate health care. At the same time, after snake bite in rural areas of the district, many people try to get rid of it with the help of tantra mantra before getting treatment. However, due to this superstition, despite the availability of medicines for this disease, there is a delay in the treatment. This delay often affects the life of the patient. When children play outside, herds of cows and buffaloes move to inaccessible and difficult places. The type of snake bite was detected at that time.

The number of snakebites in the district is increasing every year. In 2015, there were 1,655 incidents of snakebite in the district. In 2016 1830, in 2017 the number dropped drastically. However, the incidence of snakebites has increased again in 2021. Incidents of snakebite are increasing day by day in rural areas, so there is a need to be more vigilant in this regard. With the end of the habitat of snakes, a large number of snakes are seen around the house and are biting. Therefore it is necessary to create awareness about snake bites and precautions to be taken.
