Chandigarh, Punjab Director General of Police Siddharth Chattopadhyaya said on Saturday that preliminary investigation into the Ludhiana district court blast case has revealed that the former police head constable, who died in the blast, was involved in assembling of bomb parts. Chattopadhyay said Singh had links with some Khalistani elements and drug smugglers. Singh was a resident of Khanna and was sacked in a drug-related case. Singh was killed and six others were injured in an explosion in the court premises on Thursday.

Following this incident, the Punjab government had declared a high alert in the state. Asked whether RDX was used in the bomb, Chattopadhyay said the explosive has been sent for forensic examination and it will be known what material was used after its report.

“I cannot say with certainty what material was used in the blast,” he said. Replying to another question, the DGP said Singh had good technical knowledge when he was in police service. “He had very good knowledge of computers and technology,” the state police chief said.
Ruling out the possibility of a human bomb, Chattopadhyay said, “It seems that he went there (toilet) to connect some wires and place it (the bomb). Human bombs are not made like this.” “The way he was sitting, it doesn’t look like he had gone to use it (toilet). He was using the toilet to attach it (the bomb). He was alone there.” (agency)
