Panaji: Nearly three months after joining the Trinamool Congress (TMC), former Goa MLA Lavu Mamlatdar on Friday resigned from the party. The Mamlatdar accused the TMC of being communal and trying to create a divide between Hindus and Christians for votes ahead of the state assembly elections.
The former Ponda MLA had joined the Mamata Banerjee-led party in the last week of September. He was among the first few local leaders from the state to join the TMC. The TMC has decided to contest all 40 seats in the Goa Assembly elections to be held in February 2022.
The Mamlatdar also alleged that the TMC was collecting people’s data in the name of launching a welfare scheme for women in the state when it comes to power after the elections. After resigning from the party, he told reporters, “I had joined the TMC because I was completely impressed by the performance of the Mamata Banerjee-led party in West Bengal (the assembly elections held earlier this year).
“I had the impression that TMC is a very secular party. But from what I have seen in the last 15-20 days, I have come to know that it is worse than the BJP.”
TMC launched ‘Laxmi Bhandar’ scheme, promising Rs 500 per month to WB women. But in Goa, they promised Rs 5000 per month, which is next to impossible. When a party feels defeated, they do false promises. I won’t be a part of a party who fools people: Ex-Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar

The TMC has forged a pre-poll alliance with the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), whose mamlatdar was an MLA between 2012 and 2017. He alleged that TMC was trying to divide Hindu and Christian votes. “Under the pre-poll alliance, they want Christian votes to go to TMC and Hindu votes to MGP,” he alleged. TMC is a communal party, which is trying to disturb the secular fabric.”
He accused TMC of trying to collect data of people in the name of its Gruh Lakshmi Yojana. He said, “We have found that under the Lakshmi Bhandar Yojana launched in West Bengal, only Rs 500 is given, whereas here they are promising Rs 5,000 to women under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, which is almost impossible. Is. The plan’s promise is solely to collect data from Goa.”
