In this regard, the ministry said in a statement, “These channels and websites were being run from Pakistan. They were spreading fake news on various sensitive issues related to India.” The ministry said the channels were being used to post divisive content on topics like Indian Army, Kashmir, minority communities, General Bipin Rawat. These include the Pakistan-based Naya Pakistan Group (NPG), which has a network of YouTube channels. The ministry said that out of 20 blocked YouTube channels, 15 were running NPG. Anchors of Pakistani news channels are also associated with some of these channels.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur also said in a video message about this that action has been taken against 20 YouTube channels and two websites for spreading anti-national content and fake news. This action has been taken under the IT Rules to stop Pakistan’s agenda against India.
The ministry said that content on issues like farmers’ protests, Citizenship (Amendment) Act were posted on these YouTube channels. Along with this, they were trying to incite minorities against the central government. There were apprehensions that these channels could also be used to undermine the process of the upcoming assembly elections in five states. The blocked YouTube channels include Punch Line, InternationalWeb News, Naya Pakistan Global, Cover Story, Tayyab Hanif, Mohsin Rajput Official, Mian Imran Ahmed and Zain Ali Official. The ministry said that these YouTube channels were posting false facts and misleading content such as US taking action against India, Muslims supporting Taliban in Assam and Pakistani fighter jets entering Indian territory. Apart from this, they were also trying to create unrest in the country.
