Ranchi: The birthday of the great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan was celebrated as International Mathematics Day by the Department of Applied Science of Sarla Birla University located in Ranchi district of Jharkhand.
On this occasion, as the chief guest, retired professor of BITS Pilani, CB Gupta, in his address said that Ramanujan’s discovery made in the field of mathematics has emerged as the foundation of modern mathematics and science. He described Ramanuja as a mathematician of mathematicians and a magician of institutions. In his address, he said that great mathematicians have gained popularity all over the world. His discovery has inspired researchers around the world. Western mathematician GS Lord placed Srinivasa Ramanujan in the category of Buller, Grass, Archimedes and Newton. Today there is a need to study and research on his theory.

On this occasion, the Registrar of the University, Professor Vijay Kumar Singh said that Mathematics is the queen of science. The savvy of mathematics has given a new direction to the country and the world. Society has become better than before. India has a huge and proud tradition in the field of mathematics, which needs to be encouraged. There is no dearth of talents like Ramanujan in India. We need to nurture those talents. The program was conducted by Dr. Pintu Das and the subject entry was done by Dr. Shashi Kumar. At the end of the program vote of thanks was given by Dr. Nitya Garg, Head of Applied Science. Professor Sridhar B. Dandin, Dr. Prashant Mandal, Dr. Sandeep Kumar, besides students of Maths and B.Tech participated in the program.
