What is Joker Malware?
Joker malware infects apps listed on the Google Play Store and, after a user downloads one of the infected apps, each time the malware is detected, its developers use its code to circumvent Play Store security guidelines. Make minor changes in .
Malware steals user information like SMS, contact list and device information. The virus silently clicks on ads with the device in the background and gives its users a subscription to a premium service.
The malware is capable of taking OTP from SMS to accept the payment secretly. Thereafter, it will delete the OTP and bank SMS so that the user does not know about the incident. The user will come to know about this only when he checks his bank statement.
The Joker virus was first detected in 2017, during which time Google worked to reduce its impact on Android apps for a long time. The company also published a blog post in 2019 talking about its long battle with the Joker virus. Viruses are still detected on a dozen or more apps every few months. Google has recently removed some of these apps from the Play Store.
