India’s rank in the Henley Passport Index has dropped six places from last year to 90. It lists the most travel-friendly passports in the world. The Henley Passport Index comes at a time when countries are easing travel rules for international visitors, nearly two years after the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. The index ranks the passports of countries according to the number of destinations those passport holders can travel to without a prior visa.
The ranking is based on an analysis of data provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Japan and Singapore top this year’s list, allowing their passport holders to travel visa-free to 192 countries, while South Korea and Germany are in second place.
For the third year in a row, Japan has secured the first place. Meanwhile, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Pakistan and Yemen are the least powerful.
India, which was ranked 84th last year, dropped to 90th place, allowing its passport holders to travel visa-free to 58 countries. India shares the rank with Tajikistan and Burkina Faso.
The firm’s Q4 Global Mobility Report says, “The global mobility gap is at its widest point ever and continues to expand due to the spread of barriers to entry since the outbreak of the pandemic. Even Henley Even fully vaccinated travelers from countries at the bottom of the passport index are mostly outside the developed world.”
