Kanhaiya Kumar joins Congress : Kanhaiya Kumar, the chief of JNU Students’ Union, today joined the Congress in the presence of Rahul Gandhi. Gujarat’s independent MLA and flamboyant Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani was also to join the party but said that he cannot join the Congress at the moment due to “technical” reasons. He has supported the Congress. He said that he is with the ideology of Congress.
Kanhaiya Kumar has contested from Begusarai in Bihar on a CPI ticket. After taking membership of Congress in the presence of Rahul Gandhi, Kanhaiya Kumar said that he is joining Congress because it is not just a party. It’s a thought. He said, “It is the oldest and most democratic party in the country. I am stressing the word ‘democratic’. Not only me, many believe that this country cannot progress without Congress. Like the freedom struggle in the country, now the fight for ‘Idea of India’ is going on. It is necessary to support the Congress in this.
Kanhaiya Kumar said, Congress is not a party, it is an idea
Kanhaiya Kumar, a 34-year-old firebrand leader, was the president of the JNU Students’ Union. Kanhaiya Kumar had come to the discussion center across the country with his smoky speeches against the 2016 JNU students’ movement and then PM Modi. Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and many other student leaders were accused of raising anti-national slogans. However, Kanhaiya Kumar was later released on interim bail. In 2019, Kanhaiya Kumar contested from Begusarai seat of Bihar against BJP leader Giriraj Singh. However, Kanhaiya, who was fighting on a CPI ticket, lost. For the last few days, there were reports of him leaving the CPI and joining the Congress. It was being said that the top leadership and other big leaders in the CPI were not listening to him.
Mevani said, I will fight the next election on the symbol of Congress
Along with Kanhaiya Kumar, fire brand leader Jignesh Mevani was also reported to be joining the Congress but he did not join the party. Mevani, who has agitated against BJP in Gujarat, is an independent MLA from Vadgam. Mevani said that he was not able to join Congress due to technical reasons as he is an independent MLA. If he joins the Congress, his membership of the assembly will end. Although part of the ideology of Congress and will contest the elections on the party’s symbol in the upcoming assembly elections in Gujarat.
