In response to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s scathing attack against the country, India described Pakistan as a patron of terrorism and a suppressor of minorities. India’s first secretary to the United Nations (UN), Sneha Dubey, strongly denied, saying: This is a country that works to set itself on fire by disguising itself as a firefighter.
Dubey further said, “Pakistan keeps terrorists here in the hope that they will only harm their neighbours. Our region and indeed the whole world has suffered because of their policies. On the other hand, they are communal in their country. Trying to disguise the violence as terrorist acts.”
Shortly after Sneha’s speech was posted on her social media handle, Indians applauded her for her stern response, the age at which she was given the responsibility and the way she handled it. Many people are also surprised.
Sneha, a 2012 batch IFS officer, completed her schooling from Goa. He then did his higher education at Ferguson College, Pune and finally did his MPhil from School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi.
She wanted to join the Indian Foreign Service since the age of 12 and cleared the civil services exam in her first attempt in 2011.
She says her motivation to join the overseas services was a combination of learning about international affairs, the thrill of discovering new cultures, representing the country, being a part of important policy decisions and helping people.
A travel enthusiast, Sneha believes that becoming an IFS officer has given her the best opportunity to represent the country. Sneha is the first person in her family to join government services. His father works in a multinational company while his mother is a school teacher.
Sneha Dubey’s first appointment was in the Ministry of External Affairs after being selected for the Foreign Service. Then in August 2014 he was sent to the Indian Embassy in Madrid. Sneha is currently India’s First Secretary to the United Nations.
After the video of Dubey surfaced, he is being highly praised among Twitter users. One user said, “What a way to silence jokers in Pakistan…every word chosen so carefully…full of facts…superb.”
