Kim Yo Jong, sister of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, has once again warned South Korea. Kim Yo Jong said that if South Korea conducts military exercises together with America, it will harm the initiative to repair the relationship between the two Koreas. North Korea’s state media KCNA has given this information. At the same time, South Korea has said that it will continue efforts to improve relations and talks with North Korea.
Kim Yo Jong also said that the recent decision to restore the hotline between the two Koreas should be seen as nothing more than a resumption of physical ties. He said that it is going to be completely thoughtless to assume that soon there can be a summit between the two countries. In a statement, Kim Yo Jong said, “Our government and military will keep a close watch on whether the South Koreans conduct aggressive warfare exercises or take any major decisions.” Hope or despair? It’s not up to us. His remarks come at a time when North and South Korea are in talks to hold a summit as part of efforts to restore ties.
South Korea said this in its support
At the same time, South Korea said on Monday that it will continue to try to improve relations and start talks with rival North Korea. South Korea’s Defense Ministry said on Monday that the exact timing and other details of the exercise have not yet been decided and will be determined by US and South Korean officials. Spokesperson Boo Seung-chan reiterated his earlier statement, saying that Seoul and Washington were examining factors such as the current state of the pandemic, diplomatic efforts to thwart North Korea’s nuclear ambitions, and the preparedness of South Korea and the United States.
North Korea responds to South Korea-US with arms test
Unification Ministry spokeswoman Lee Jong-joo said Seoul wanted talks with North Korea but was in no hurry to do so. North Korea sees military exercises between South Korea and the United States as an attack exercise and often responds by testing its weapons. North and South Korea have been technically at war since the ceasefire imposed after the 1950-53 dispute.
