Women lawmakers of Pakistan are very angry with the increasing rape cases in Pakistan and increasing cases of child abuse and abuse. Women MPs have demanded public hanging of all the rape convicts to stop these crimes. According to the Dawn newspaper report, women members of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) made this demand in the National Assembly on Friday.
Opposition PML-N’s Syeda Noshin Iftikhar said, “We demand speedy decision in the rape cases of 69 women MPs and public hanging of the culprits.” The women MPs also called for the formation of a parliamentary committee to review rape cases. Asma Qadeer, MP of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party, said, if Pakistan is to be run, then rape convicts and killers should be hanged publicly. Qadir broke down while speaking about the rising cases of rape of women and children and the recent murder of Noor Muqadam, the daughter of a former ambassador to Islamabad.
mukadam murdered after refusing marriage proposal
Noor Mukadam was murdered by his friend. The issue of violence against women caught the attention of lawmakers after the brutal murder of a business tycoon’s son in Islamabad’s posh area earlier this month. The killer has been arrested. Preliminary reports said that the murder took place after the killer’s marriage proposal was turned down. Maulana Akbar Chitrali of the right-wing Jamati-e-Islami supported the demand of women MPs and said that to prevent such incidents, rape convicts and killers should be hanged in public places.
Domestic violence cases increased in Pakistan
Mehnaz Akbar Aziz of PML-N said that the killer of Mukadam should be hanged publicly so that such incidents do not happen in future. PPP’s Shamim Ara Panhwar said that in the light of increasing incidents of child abuse and rape of women, there is no other option but to publicly hang the culprits and killers. According to a Human Rights Watch report released earlier this year, data collected from domestic violence hotlines in Pakistan showed a 200 percent increase in domestic violence between January and March last year.
