China US Cyber Attack: China on Tuesday accused the US of colluding with allies to make alleged baseless allegations of running a global hacking campaign and asked it to desist from throwing “mud” on such allegations. China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian alleged on Tuesday that “NATO has made cyberspace a new battlefield with encouragement from the US” which may lead to a cyber arms race.
He was reacting to the allegations of China running a global hacking campaign by the US and NATO. Zhao said, ‘The US has colluded with its allies to make baseless allegations against China on Chinese cyber security.’ An unprecedented group of US allies and partners, including the European Union, Britain, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Japan and NATO, joined the US on Monday to expose and criticize China’s malicious cyber activities.
America’s allies pulled up China
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters on Monday that NATO condemned China’s cyber activities for the first time. The united front prepared by America pulled up China. Zhao said that this (the allegation) is purely an act of defamation and pressure with political motive (China Hacking US Government). China will never accept this and will strongly oppose it and will counter any kind of cyber attack. He took on NATO, saying that the US-led military alliance has made cyberspace a new battlefield.
Difficult to prove source of cyber attack
He said that if NATO cares about the cyber security of its member countries, then it should discuss the matter of huge cyber espionage of some member countries with other member countries. On the allegation of a cyber attack from China, Zhao reiterated China’s repeated defense that it is difficult to establish the source of the cyber attack (China Accuses US of Hacking). He said, “Considering the virtual nature of cyberspace and that online activists are such that they are difficult to trace, it is important to have sufficient evidence to investigate and identify cyber incidents.”
America was told the biggest source of the attack
“The so-called technological details released by the US do not constitute a complete set of evidence,” he said. Zhao also accused the US of being the biggest source of cyber attacks in the world and targeting China’s aerospace research units, the oil industry, Internet companies and government agencies. He said, ‘No one can come clean by defaming China and others (China Slams US For Hacking). China strongly calls on the US and its allies to stop their cyber espionage and attacks on China.
