Twitter has named Vinay Prakash as the Resident Grievance Officer for India. This information has been received from the official website of the company. The US-based company has been in controversy for failing to comply with the new IT regulations in India. Along with this, other needs were also not able to meet. This includes appointing three key officers – Chief Compliance Officer, Nodal Officer and Grievance Officer for social media platforms with more than 50 lakh users. All three officers must be citizens of India.

According to the updated information on Twitter, Vinay Prakash is the Resident Grievance Officer (RGO). Users can contact them using the email id given on the page. The page further states that Twitter can be contacted in India at: 4th Floor, The Estate, 121 Dickson Road, Bangalore 560 042. Prakash is named along with Jeremy Kessel, Global Legal Policy Director and are based in the US.
The company has also published its compliance report for the period from 26 May 2021 to 25 June 2021. This was also an urgent requirement, which comes under the new IT rules that came into force from 26 May. Twitter had earlier appointed Dharmendra Chatur as an interim Resident Grievance Officer as per the requirements of IT regulations for India. However, Chatur had stepped down last month.
Twitter has been in conflict with the Indian government over new social media rules. The government had raised questions for not being able to comply with the country’s new IT regulations despite repeated reminders to Twitter.

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed Twitter to inform when it will appoint Resident Grievance Officer (RGO) as per the new IT rules. The microblogging platform had submitted to the court that it is in the process of doing so. Justice Rekha Palli objected that the court was not informed that the earlier appointment of the RGO was only on an interim basis and that he had resigned.
