The International Airport, located in Iraq’s northern city of Erbil, was targeted late Tuesday night by explosive-laden drones. This attack took place very close to the American consulate. Kurdish officials have given this information. The Anti-Terrorist Unit of the autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan said, the attack took place at night. But there were no casualties and not much damage was done. The fire was extinguished immediately.
The airport in Irbil is also a military base for international coalition troops fighting the Islamic State. This airport was also targeted in April. At that time also this airport was attacked with drones. Since the beginning of this year, several US bases in Iraq have been targeted and attacked. 2500 US troops are stationed in Iraq. On Monday, an armed drone was seen over the US embassy in Baghdad, which was shot down by US security forces. A few hours before this, three rockets targeted the positions of American soldiers located in the western Iraqi desert.
Iran-backed militias also target US bases
Recently the US announced that whoever gives first information about the attacks on its military bases in Iraq will be given a reward of three million dollars. Islamic State was defeated in 2017 and expelled from Baghdad. But still its presence is in many parts of the country. This is the reason why American soldiers are fighting these terrorists. On the other hand, Iran-backed militias also have a presence in Iraq, whose fighters always target US military bases. There has also been tension between the US and Iran regarding this. However, Iran has been denying the allegations against it.
Air raid on US military bases
Earlier, rockets were fired at the positions of US troops in the eastern part of Syria late on Sunday. Syrian state media has claimed this. A spokesman for US-backed fighters also confirmed the attack. No one died in the rocket attack. However, the US military denied any attack. US military spokesman Colonel Wayne Maroto tweeted, “There is absolutely no truth to the reports that rockets fired at US forces in Syria.”
