There is a big disclosure about Pakistan and Turkey in a US report. After this, the problems of the neighboring country are almost certain to increase. The US on Thursday included Pakistan and Turkey in the Child Soldier Prevention Act (CSPA). This means that minors are also being included in the army or other security forces in both countries. Countries included in this list may face strict restrictions regarding military aid.
Pakistani media ‘The Dawn’ has reported this news quoting a US report. This list has been included in America’s annual Trafficking in Person (TIP) report. The countries on this list are those that have not made much effort to stop human trafficking. The CSPA releases TIP reports every year, which list foreign governments where children are being enlisted in the military, police or armed security forces. The report, prepared between April 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021, also names Pakistan and Turkey, which is considered to be its ‘master’.
Names of these countries also in the list
The names of Afghanistan, Burma (Myanmar), Congo, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Mali, Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen are also included in the CSPA’s 2021 list. Military aid to these countries for peace missions can be stopped and many types of sanctions can be imposed as well. The names of Congo, Somalia and Yemen have remained in this list since 2010. From this year, America started making this list. Apart from this, nine other countries Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Mali, Myanmar, Nigeria, South Sudan and Syria have also been on this list for a decade.
6 countries included in the first list
When the US started issuing the CSPA list in 2010, six governments were included in it. After 10 years, the number of countries in this list doubled to 14. The names of 15 countries are in this list in 2021. This year, Pakistan and Turkey have been included again in the list.
Who are the ‘Child Soldiers’
According to the US government, any person under the age of 18, who is part of the government’s armed force, police or other security force, is called a ‘Child Soldier’. The report found that teenagers below the age of 15 are being inducted into the army in these governments. ‘Child Soldier’ is also used for those who are doing work such as cook, porter, messenger, guard or sex slave.
There may be many restrictions
This list can create new trouble for Pakistan which is already suffering from poverty. Countries coming in this list may stop getting help in programs like military education and training, foreign military financial aid, peace operations. These countries can also be banned from buying military weapons directly.
