Health Insurance Cover for Orphaned Children: Due to the Corona epidemic, about 4 lakh people have lost their lives across the country and still thousands of people are dying every day due to corona. Due to Corona, not only people are losing their lives but many families are also losing their earning person. It has also had a great impact on the children because either or both of their parents have lost their lives. Insurance companies cover a dependent child in health cover only in a situation where either of the parents has applied for the cover along with the child and the child remains covered even after their passing.
Insurance companies provide health cover to the child till the child attains the age of 21 years or till the parents are financially dependent. However, the biggest question here is whether the children whose parents are no more, will they get health insurance cover or not? Continuing health cover for orphans is very important as legal guardians and relatives can take care of them but they may not necessarily be able to cover the hospital expenses.

Insurance cover will continue if you keep paying premium
Regarding health insurance coverage of orphans, TA Ramalingam, Chief Technical Officer, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance informed that the policy will continue for the child with the legal guardian as the proposer. According to Ramalingam, if the legal guardians of the orphan children continue to pay the premium, their health insurance cover continues. Unmarried children, step children or legally adopted children get insurance cover in the form of dependent children.
However, on this issue, clear guidelines should be issued by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) regarding the eligibility and scope of legal guardian so that health insurance cover can be ensured to the orphan child even after the loss of his parents. . This is because grand parents or other relatives adopt orphan children without any legal process and due to this the health insurance policies of these children are declared disqualified at the time of renewal.
