Cyber fraud occurs with customers in these four ways
- About KYC by becoming an Airtel worker: The most common is that most fraudsters make calls as Airtel workers and they ask the Google Play Store to install Airtel Quick Support to help them, citing incomplete KYC. Although according to the CEO of Airtel, there is no such app, but when customers try to install it, they are redirected to the TeamViewer Quick Support app. On installing this, the fraudsters get control of the customers’ device and the accounts connected to it. Airtel has said that for this type of fraud, immediately call 121 and confirm it.
- In the name of VIP number after becoming an Airtel worker: Fraudsters make a call or SMS by becoming Airtel employees and promise to get VIP numbers with huge discounts. For this, the prepayment request is made in the form of a token / booking amount from the customers. After receiving this amount, all the contact with the fraudulent customer is terminated and it becomes impossible for the customer to reach them. Airtel has said that for this type of forgery, immediately call 121 and confirm it.
- Fake demand in digital payments by demanding OTP: Digital payments are growing rapidly, so cyber fraud is also increasing rapidly with respect to payments. Fraudulent people claiming to be from a bank or financial institution ask for the details of the account or OTP for unblocking / renewing the bank account. It is used to withdraw money from customers’ bank accounts.
- Forgery via UPI details: Fraudsters call customers and pretend to buy second-hand listed products from the website. After bargaining over the price, the customers ask for UPI details so that money can be sent to the customer’s account. When the customer gives the details of the account, an SMS is sent to the customer to approve the transaction on the phone, which is deducted instead of being credited to their account.
