The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has directed WhatsApp to withdraw its new privacy policy. This information was given to the news agency PTI by its sources. The IT Ministry believes that changes in WhatsApp Privacy Policy and the way the proposed changes are introduced violate the right values of information privacy, data security and user choice and harm the rights and interests of Indian citizens.
Seven days time to respond to the notice
According to sources, the government has given WhatsApp seven days to respond to the notice and if no satisfied reply is received, necessary steps will be taken as per the law. In a communication to WhatsApp on 18 May, the ministry has once again asked the messaging platform to withdraw its privacy policy 2021.
The ministry, in its communication, has attracted the attention of WhatsApp, as to how its new privacy policy is in violation of existing Indian laws and regulations. According to sources, while fulfilling its responsibility to protect the rights and interests of Indian citizens, the government will consider various options available under the laws in India. The ministry strongly took up the issue of discriminatory attitude of Indian users in comparison to WhatsApp users in Europe.

Allegations of discrimination against Indian users
He said that as you would be aware that many Indian citizens are dependent on WhatsApp for dialogue in their daily lives. It is not only full of problems but it is also irresponsible for WhatsApp that they are taking advantage of this situation to impose wrong terms and conditions on Indian users. Including those who discriminate against Indians, especially those in Europe.
It would be fair to say that WhatsApp had to face a lot of criticism over user concerns, that the data was being shared with its parent company Facebook. According to sources, WhatsApp had earlier claimed that it had officially postponed its new privacy policy until after May 15, 2021. However, the ministry emphasized in its communication that postponing the privacy policy after May 15 does not relieve WhatsApp of the value of information privacy, data security and user choice for Indian users.
