NASA’s Perception Rover
The US Space Agency NASA’s Perseverance rover has now started its primary mission. The mission of this rover is to search for microbial life on Mars. Since landing on the Red Planet, the rover spent its first three months recording the movements of the Ingenuity helicopter. However, now Perseverance will look for whether life exists on this planet beyond the Earth.
Tweeted from NASA’s Perversance Rover Twitter account, ‘The time has come, I am now becoming an on-scene photographer from a science investigator. Was there life on the banks of this ancient lake? The tools that I have come here will help in searching. I am a robot, which is now on its mission. The discovery of the rover means conducting a chemical and geological investigation of the stones present in the Jagero crater. This is a place where NASA believes that water once existed and was part of an ancient river delta. Ancient life could potentially reside in this wet soil, just like it does on Earth.
How will Rover look for life on Mars?
A Supercamera is mounted on the Perversance Rover, which uses a powerful laser to understand the texture of the stones and to go elsewhere. If NASA engineers find a particular place, they can instruct the rover to examine it closely. A device called SHERLOC is mounted on the arm of the rover, which will help cameras, lasers and other devices keep a close eye on the stones. In addition, it will identify minerals, organic molecules and potential biosignatures present in the crater.
Scientists will create timeline of ancient lake
NASA reported that SHERLOC has a large magnifying glass, similar to a device used by detectives in a fictional film. The device placed on the arm of the rover will also grind rock surfaces and give a chance to see the things inside it properly. In such a situation, the real work of the rover has started. NASA said that through the things they see, scientists will be able to create a timeline for the preparation of this ancient lake. They will also be able to find out when it is dry and when its sediment helped to make it a crater.
